How To Spot a Diploma Mill
Posted on September 25, 2007 by Jennifer Brady
Via this link, you can access and watch a short news video hosted by on-air reporter Dave Cherry with 12 News Today, an NBC television broadcast affiliate in Arizona. In this video news segment, Matt Fehling, President of the Better Business Bureau of Central/Northern Arizona talks about how fraudulent diploma “mills” work and a few clear signs that will help you spot them.
In the video, 12 News Today shows a graphic that summarizes some of the things these diploma mill organizations say and do. They have post office box mailing addresses rather than real addresses; they say little work will be required of you; some say you only have to pay if you earn the degree; they have familiar sounding names to real colleges you’ve heard about.
As Mr. Fehling of the Better Business Bureau says in the segment, anyone who says going to college requires little or no work, whether online or on campus, isn’t on the up and up.
