Posted on November 27, 2007 by Jennifer Brady
UMassOnline CTO Brian Douglas has been named one of 18 distinguished higher education professionals, including some of the nation’s most prominent technology experts in academia, to lead a strategic advisory council to guide overall eLearning efforts, with a focus on developing countries, for the world’s leading educational publisher. [That’s Brian in the front row, standing third from the left, in this group photo of the strategic advisory council members.]
This influential strategic advisory council, announced this week, has been formed by Pearson, which is known internationally for providing research-based print and digital programs to help students of all ages learn at their own pace, in their own way. The company is home to such renowned publishing brands as Prentice Hall, Addison Wesley, Longman, Allyn & Bacon, Benjamin Cummings, Custom Publishing and others. Pearson recently acquired eCollege, the nation’s leading provider of comprehensive eLearning technology and services to the education industry. Pearson’s other primary businesses include the Financial Times Group and the Penguin Group.
In making this announcement, Jim Behnke, Executive Vice President for Higher Education, International and Professional at Pearson, outlined the strategic advisory council’s important mission: “The Pearson advisory board is another step in our efforts to improve student performance and institutional productivity, and we look forward to benefiting from the perspectives of these thought leaders in post-secondary education.”
As our Chief Technology Officer and Director of Operations, Brian oversees the development of the technology platform and the business administration for UMassOnline. Throughout his career, he has sought to bring new technologies into the existing activities of organizations. Whether it involves new database tools, CD-ROMs, or the Internet, advancing technology has been a focus of his efforts to enhance the effectiveness and reach of organizations. A native of New York, he holds an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Colgate University.
