Chronicle Brainstorm: Going Public
Posted on January 7, 2008 by Jennifer Brady
Gina Barreca, a subject matter expert author on the Chronicle of Higher Education’s new blog and professor of English at the University of Connecticut, recently added her thoughts about the quality of a public education and why she teaches at a public university. Her “Going Public” post walks you through her path to a realization many others (faculty, students, staff, etc.) have also come to:
Because, let’s face it, what goes on in the actual classrooms of public institutions is as good as, if not better than, what goes on in those antebellum buildings on those ivied campuses. And part of my job is to demsytify (sic) the process for my own students, the ones who remain intimidated or awed by schools they can’t afford.
As the director of marketing for a public university, I of course agree with Dr. Barreca’s along with a few others who have already commented on her blog. Her post is well worth the read…
