UMass Dartmouth Study Shows College Internet Adoption Faster than Fortune 500
Posted on January 10, 2008 by Jennifer Brady
Here’s a story this week from the Boston Globe in which Dr. Nora Barnes, the director of the Center for Marketing Research at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth is featured and which, based on the Center’s research, notes that …colleges are adopting Internet technologies such as podcasts, message boards, blogs, and social networks faster than Fortune 500 companies.
That’s an impressive survey finding and one that makes me feel good about what we’re attempting to do here at the UMassOnline blog which is to create an environment in which you can explore, learn, share, and connect. Each week, thanks to you, we gain more new visitors who stay longer, read more, and otherwise participate in this new environment.
In fairness, we’re not entirely alone, and we’re not the only ones taking a creative approach. The Globe, in fact, provides a brief overview of sites from a number of other local institutions of higher education. My impression? The social media era leaves plenty of room for a wide variety of Internet-based sites for people willing to open themselves up to, and engage in, a good dialogue.
