The Elites of Social Bookmarking
Posted on February 22, 2008 by Stefanie Henderson
How many times have you searched through bookmarks on your home computer for a specific web site link only to remember you saved it on your work computer? Now, you can save your favorite web site links in one place and access them from anywhere. Known as social bookmarking, these online repositories allow you to store your bookmarks, categorize by giving sites specific keywords, as well as share your bookmarks with others.A short introduction video on social bookmarking can be found here on YouTube. Here are my top five social bookmarking tools:
- del.icio.us: A place to save links, share favorites, and learn more about the billions of pages available on the Web.
- digg: Fantastic site for bookmarking news, videos, images, and podcasts.
- Furl: Simplified bookmark saving and sharing.
- Diigo: Takes social bookmarking a step further by adding annotation tools.
- Newsvine: Collections of news articles and current events.
Please post any other social bookmarks that are helping to organize your favorites!

Stefanie…great post as usual. How about a social web browser? Check out Flock at www.flock.com.
Their tagline “Flock - The browser for people who like to be connected”
On the about us page they state:
Internet users spend a lot of time going from one site to the next, keeping up with a variety of friends and interests. Flock pulls all of your favorite people, places and content together in a convenient view and delivers a more personal experience of the web, where its users are more easily connected to what’s important to them.
Nice list Stefanie.
I would add that Diigo allows you to also post to delicious thus saving time and effort.
@Mark - I gave Flock a try a while back but it was very buggy and crashed constantly, causing me to lose bookmarks and other information. Has it improved lately?
