Today’s Public Launch of Our Blog
Posted on March 20, 2008 by Jennifer Brady
Today UMassOnline is issuing a news release informing the media about this blog, and making the important point that this online community is now officially open to one and all. Until now, while we were learning more about social media, our blog has maintained a very low profile. But it is our opinion now, especially based on the broad and provocative content provided by a range of voices showcased here, that the UMassOnline Blog is really ready for ‘Prime Time.’ If this is your first visit here, welcome, and please feel free to explore the site. More importantly, feel free to join the ongoing discussion.
To mark this milestone, I thought it would be appropriate to revisit thoughts from UMassOnline CEO David Gray in a post he wrote several months ago to inaugurate our online community effort. The post was entitled Why this and Why Now?
While I recommend you read that post in its entirety for a thoughtful explanation of why we have developed this community and are committed to its success, I thought this was a great excerpt:
Why this and why now? First, because I and many other academic leaders, scholars, and students are discovering the power of online communities like this and the value of conversations among people with a diversity of opinions and contributions to make involving matters of shared interest.
We are eager to get your thoughts on this site as we see this as a start and continue to evolve and spark more conversations. What do you think? Is there anything you’d like to ask our bloggers? Anything you would like to see discussed?
