How Will Your Online Degree Advance Your Career?
Posted on September 12, 2008 by Jennifer Brady
I’ve been thinking about a weekly series of posts in which various faculty experts and others outline how completing a degree in any one of the many programs we offer could help a person advance his or her career. For example, how might a master’s degree in nursing help someone who is today a nurse or related healthcare worker? What sort of doors might a degree in applied linguistics open for a student?
But it occurs to me you might have some of the best examples of all, and the best perspective on how continuing education will likely continue your career aspirations. Why have you returned to college via online learning? How do you expect your career will change once you have that degree or certificate in hand? By telling us your story, you will be helping many others just now starting to assess the value and benefits of continuing their course of study.

I think any degree will help, especially if it’s from a reputable school like UMass.
As a part, and present, student, I can say that one’s career will begin to change while the student is still enrolled in the program and taking classes.
I, for example, have implemented a lot of things that I learned in the classroom in my day-to-day job. No need to wait until graduation to see the impact of education in your life.
My UMass Online degree has helped me greatly in my professional life. I’m more analytical and a much better writer. I am also much more comfortable sitting it on high level meetings, and have a much better understanding when looking at statistics, financial reports, etc.
Getting a degree is well worth the efforts and UMass has a great online degree option.
