Prospective Online College Students Want Fast Inquiry Follow-up, Preferably by Email

Thanks to a recent survey by EducationDynamics, a leading marketing and information services company, the way we respond to prospective students at UMassOnline has been validated. According to the survey, for students who are looking at several online colleges and asking questions, when it comes to how schools respond “…speed of contact and method of communication matter most.”
There are a couple of interesting aspects of the research. First, as you can see by this report, the researchers said this news would come as a surprise to most traditional higher education institutions. Perhaps because online and traditional gets a balanced representation here at UMass and UMassOnline, the finding wasn’t very surprising at all.
The survey found that 60 percent of the students who participated in this research did not select the school that contacted them first. It turns out the human element trumps speed and technology. Says Andrew Gansler, of EducationDynamics, “…eventually, human interaction is a key ingredient to success in the enrollment process.” I couldn’t agree more. UMass and UMassOnline have always featured real-live educational counselors on each campus, representing all programs, and fielding questions from all over from students seeking the best fit.
