Major Future Job: Corporate Online Learning Designer?

UMassOnline Jennifer BradyIn a great background piece on the momentum of distance learning in India one point stuck out most to me:

Statistics reveal that one of the top 10 positions among Global 1000 companies of the future will be that of an online learning designer.

I pay attention to facts and predictions about future jobs because it has much to do with what people will want and need to study in college. Many of the jobs today’s college students will have in their career do not exist today. In this instance, this statistic might also imply how people decide to learn, whether online or in the classroom. After all, if someone wants to grow up to be an online learning designer, good prepartion would likely include being an online college student, right?

As for this specific assertion about online learning designer careers, there’s no attribution and a quick online search didn’t produce a source of the stat. But, if you search the web using the phrase “online learning designer,” you get this. Apparently, the future has started to arrive.

Thanks very much Elizabeth. I am sure I am completely biased, but would suggest this program in particular: http://www.umassonline.net/degrees/Online-Degree-Master-Education-Instructional-Design.cfm.
