A Follow-Up to Recently Announced ‘Green’ Programs: Green Workers Have More Job Security
Posted on June 10, 2009 by Jennifer Brady
Sixty-eight percent of employees in the climate change sector feel the same or more job security than they did a year ago, due to a heightened response from government and business to the threat of climate change, according to Reuters’ first Carbon Salary Survey.
That’s from this article appearing in Environmental Leader. It seemed like a timely report to reference here following our recent announcement about new degree and certificate offerings in Sustainable Entrepreneurship, Environmental Public Policy, and a Green Building Professional Development series.
The article is a good one to read from top to bottom if you have an interest in a career tied to the environment and global ecology/energy issues. To be clear, the piece doesn’t say climate change experts will, or expect to, earn more money than other professionals.
A common trait among respondents was a solid education, with 96 percent having at least one university degree, but the results showed that having green qualifications made little difference in salary, according to the survey.
It does say that most of those in the field that were surveyed, about 1,200 professionals, feel like their job is pretty stable and in today’s economy, that’s a good thing wouldn’t you agree?
