Posted on August 7, 2009 by Stefanie Henderson
Are you an absolute newbie to Twitter? First, let’s get the definition out of the way. Twitter.com defines their free web application as: “Social networking and microblogging service utilizing instant messaging, SMS or a web interface.” Still not with me? Let’s deconstruct Twitter’s definition:
- Social networking: Online shared connections
- Microblogging: Short text messages published to the web via IM, SMS, or web.
- Instant messaging (IM): Online immediate text communications via computer to computer.
- SMS (Short Message Service): Short text messages sent via mobile to mobile.
- Web Interface: Internet connected web browser (IE, FireFox, Safari, etc.).
