UMassOnline Reaches Milestone of 90 Degree and Certificate Programs Online
Posted on November 6, 2009 by Jennifer Brady
OK, this isn’t exactly ‘Stop the Presses’ news for the mainstream media, but this past week our 90th online program was launched. In a way, numbers can mean very little. Is a person, for example, who has seen 100 foreign countries more worldly than one who has been to fewer? Not necessarily. And, as a practical matter, are their online institutions offering a higher number of online programs? Sure. In the end, it is the quality of each and every program that matters most, not the mere number of programs at hand.
But here’s what the number does mean for us. It means we have consistently added to our programs since the founding of UMassOnline in 2001; the diversity of programs has increased dramatically and this means students have more choice; and, if our programs were not of interest or value to learners and important to our faculty members, this number would not have been reached. The 90th milestone is a sign of the University of Massachusetts’ and UMassOnline’s consistency of development, commitment to this learning option, and success among learners everywhere seeking a quality option.
By the way, the 90th new program is for a Master’s in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy.
