Big Surge in Green Jobs Anticipated Ahead

UMassOnline Jennifer BradyThose looking into starting a career or changing career paths might be interested to look into “Green Jobs” which are expected to triple in the next 10 years, according to a study released last year by the United States Conference of Mayors.

That’s from this article by Sheila Danzig, which goes in to considerable detail to define what exactly is a green job. She writes: According to the United Nations Environment Program, green jobs or green collar jobs are “work in agricultural, manufacturing, research and development (R&D), administrative, and service activities that contribute(s) substantially to preserving or restoring environmental quality. Specifically, but not exclusively, these include jobs that help protect ecosystems and biodiversity; reduce energy, materials, and water consumption through high-efficiency strategies; de-carbonize the economy; and minimize or altogether avoid generation of all forms of waste and pollution.”

With this in mind, you may want to check out the recently added green courses in the UMassOnline portfolio of offerings. Specifically, last May, we announced new offerings in Sustainable Entrepreneurship, Environmental Public Policy, and a Green Building Professional Development Series. You can read more about these in our news release about these green programs.
